It is likely that you have heard of the “Gangnam Style” but if you do not, I’m sure you know what it is. 강남건마 Korean artist PSY has been released by the prison due to a recent case of plagiarism and this has now caused him to go on a world tour. I first saw his video, “Gangnam Style” about six months ago and I have never seen anything quite like it.
The video is only a few minutes long, but the hype that is currently generated about it is far reaching. This could well be the first hit song from the Philippines. Many say it is a homage to PSY, who is already well known for his outlandish and very charismatic dance moves.
In a surprising turn of events, Office Depot recently announced their version of “Gangnam Style” and if you don’t know, it’s kind of the same song with a slightly different style of beat. I guess both versions have got the same concept, although the beat in Office Depot’s version is slightly more intricate than in PSY’s.
Now there are no official word from the DVJ (Digital Video Music) or the Office Depot but both versions are all set to be available soon. Just keep in mind that both are a bit of a departure from the original “Gangnam Style” and the styles of the beat are definitely a different direction to go. The Office Depot version does sound slightly more refined however.
PSY and Office Depot has just started their campaign and I’m sure their “Gangnam Style” will make a huge impact. It is said that PSY’s newest creation is his best yet and that he is all smiles. His fans are said to be incredibly ecstatic at the new version and they definitely deserve it.
And now, a little more about the origin of “Gangnam Style.” According to the internet, the phrase “Gangnam Style” was coined by a citizen in the Yonsei University in Korea who was actually trying to beat Google in the search engine ranking.
He was able to get his words through an article, but Google soon found out and punished him by triggering his spam filter system. He sent a complaint to Google and soon enough, he learned that his problem was being detected too often and his account was banned. This caused him to launch his campaign against Google.
Some believe that the same process would happen again, as well as the online community. I think it is only a matter of time until the campaign becomes more widespread.
